I just found this post on Music Thing about making a Cassette-Tape Mellotron. It looks really promising, particularly the part about making a cassette tape loop on this site.

Captured By Robots

Captured by Robots

They say that in an attempt to create a band, JBOT (the human) created robots which revolted and made him his slave, forced to tour with them around the world for eternity.

So, the band consists of the poor enslaved human, a guitar AND bassplayer, a drummer, a horn section, and two apes. The names are brilliant: The Headless Hornsmen, The Ape which Hath No Name, The Son of the Ape which Hath No Name, and more.

I love the idea of a (rather evil) robot-band and how crudely JBOT executed it. I’m really fascinated by the technology and how smooth + rough the show is, AND at the same time I’m scared out of my pants, because these creatures look rather disgusting.

Here’s a video.

(The band website has a lot of info and pictures, but doesn’t have videos anymore…)

luke fischbeck – luckydragons

Friday, September 21st, 2007

“”lucky dragons” are various recorded and performed pieces by Luke Fischbeck and Sarah Rara. Slipping through various contexts and identities since their birth in 2001, lucky dragons involve music and sound, video, dance, and interactive technology–performing in such institutions as the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY’s PS1, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Philadelphia Institute for Contemporary Art, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Frankfurt’s Schirn Kunsthalle, and NY’s The Kitchen.

These shows are about the birthing of new and temporary creatures–creating equal-power situations in which audience members cooperate amongst themselves, to build a fragile network of digital signals connected by touching on the skin. There have been hundreds of these simple yet shifting and unpredictable instances–with audiences ranging from the intense intimacy of one person to the public spectacle of over one thousand people. At the heart of it all is playing together–building up social collectivities, re-engaging the wonder and impossibility of technology and live performance. It sounds–and looks–like simple and ancient patterns coming together and falling apart in a sincere attempt to let wires and screens and words become clear and crystal.”

My name is Elie Stevenson. I recently graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication where I studied design.

I used to dj back in high school and produced a few albums with a friend of mine. They actually sold pretty well and I wish I had never given that up. Anyways, I don’t have much classical music training, however I used to play the piano when I was a kid. Oh, I used to mess around with Fruity Loops also.

I enjoy all types of music and some of my favorite artists include: Dieselboy, Radiohead, Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, The Talking Heads, Dj Tiesto, Beck, Elliot Smith, Manu Chao and so forth…

Here is a cool video about house music for some inspiration:
